READING LESSON - THE LAMP OF THE BLIND

 ENGLISH MORAL STORY READING

 The lamp of the blind 

Once upon a time, there was a small town. There lived a blind man by himself who couldn't see. Yet, he carried a lighted lamp with him whenever he went out at night.

One night as he was coming home after having a dinner outside, he came across a group of young travelers. They saw that he was blind, yet carrying a lighted lamp. They started passing comments on him and made a fun of him. One of them asked him, "Hey Man! You are blind and unable to see anything! Why do you carry the lamp than?!"

The blind man replied, "Yes, unfortunately, I am blind and I can't see anything but a lighted lamp which I am carrying is for the people like you who can see. You may not see the blind man coming and end up pushing me. That is why I carry a lighted lamp'.

The group of travelers felt ashamed and apologized for their behavior.

 Moral: We should think before judging others. Always be polite and learn to see things from others point of view. 

 பார்வையற்றவரின் விளக்கு 

முன்னோரு காலத்தில், ஒரு சிறிய நகரத்தில் ஒரு பார்வையற்ற மனிதர் ஒருவர் வாழ்ந்து வந்தார். அவர் பார்வையற்றவராக இருந்ததால், இரவில் எங்கு சென்றாலும் ஒரு விளக்கு எடுத்துச் செல்லும் வழக்கம் அவருக்கு இருந்தது.

ஒரு நாள் இரவில் வெளியில் இரவு உணவு சாப்பிட்டுவிட்டு வீடு திரும்பிக் கொண்டிருந்த போது, இளைஞர்களின் பட்டாளத்தை கடந்து வந்தார். அவர் குருடராக இருப்பதையும், அவர் கிளக்கு ஏந்தி வந்ததையும் அவர்கள் கண்டார்கள். அப்போது அந்த இளைஞர்கள் அந்த மனிதர் பார்வையற்றவராக இருப்பதை கண்டு கேலி செய்ய ஆரம்பித்தனர். அவர்களில் ஒருவன் "நீ குருடனாய் இருக்கிறாய், எதையும் உன்னால் பார்க்க முடியாது! ஏன் நீ விளக்கு ஏந்திக் கொண்டிருக்கிறாய்?" - என்று அந்த மனிதனிடம் கேட்டான்.

ஆமாம் நான் குருடன் தான், என்னால் எதையும் பார்க்க முடியாது, ஆனால் நான் ஏந்திச் செல்லும் விளக்கின் ஒளியில் மற்றவர்களால் என்னை பார்க்க முடியும் அல்லவா? அப்போது யாரும் என் மீது வந்து மோத மாட்டார்கள், அதனால் தான் நான் இந்த விளக்கை ஏந்திச் செல்கிறேன் என்று கூறினார்.

இதை கேட்ட இளைஞர்கள் தங்கள் செயலை உணர்ந்து வெக்கப்பட்டு அந்த மனிதரிடம் மன்னிப்பு கேட்டனர்.

 நீதி : ஒருவரை மதிப்பிடுவதற்கு முன்பே யோசிக்க வேண்டும். எப்போதும் கண்ணியமாகவும் மற்றவர்களுடைய பார்வையில் இருந்து விஷயங்களை கற்றுக் கொள்ள வேண்டும் .
